With The Arsenal reaching their first League Cup showpiece at Wembley since 2018 we thought it would be a good time to devote our latest edition to previewing our eagerly-awaited clash with Manchester City at the national stadium on Sunday, March 22.
It's been eight long years since Gooners were able to attend a Wembley final, which will be the Gunners ninth in total, which means it will be my seventh. Which is why we’ve devoted the majority of this publication to looking towards the final, not to mention recalling past glories, and dismal defeats. Our most venerable writer – huge Gooner and all-round lovely gentleman, Peter Le Beau has written about being there in 1968 and 1969, while myself and others in these pages can still recall the deep joy of being at our first (and the club’s third final) back in April 1987. For those of us of a certain vintage, who remember the majestic thrills and exploits of the 1986-87 triumphant run like it was yesterday, the League Cup will always be special.
As everyone who is reading this will know, George Graham’s never-to-be-forgotten class of ‘87 also provided a springboard for future successes. After the abject miseries of witnessing final defeats in 1988, 2007, 2011, and what was truly my worst ever day out at Wembley in more than 40 years of watching Arsenal and England at Wembley, for the utterly abysmal 3-0 defeat by City in 2018, let’s hope we can add a third trophy success to go with ‘87, and 1993.
I’ve always felt a club of our stature should have won this tournament far more times than we have.
So, here’s hoping the merry month or er, March, will bring us all some long overdue silverware, ahead of what could be a momentous climax to the season.
And while we’re at it, why not buy an extra copy of this fanzine for a mate, and help spread the Gooner gospel ahead of the final.

PS: Note for our loyal subscribers
In our April issue, we will be focusing on how we attempt to reach the requisite number of subscribers needed to help us stay afloat - but for now, if you are a direct debit subscriber please let your subscription simply roll over for season 2026-27 as that will help us no end in determining our plan of attack in keeping the Gooner alive for next season. In the meantime, here’s to a wonderful Wembley day out, that will hopefully see Mikel Arteta’s side bring back the trophy to N5.
Come on you Gunners.
PPS: Thank You (2)
Thanks as ever to our loyal subscribers and matchday readers, as well as our brilliant Gooner team behind the scenes including Serge Braga-Mullin and Freddie Cardy, as well as all our writers, creatives and sellers.
Last, but never least, a special thank you to my wonderful partner Faye, not only for putting up with my all-consuming passion for The Arsenal, and the Gooner Fanzine itself, but also for her hard work in helping out with Gooner admin.
