Arsenal are considering a shock £40m midfielder swap.

The Gunners are back for Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz - are are  weighing up whether to swap Villains long-term target Emile Smith Rowe for the Brazilian star.

The North Londoners have been showing strong interest in landing Luiz from Villa Park.

Arsenal attempted tried to sign Luiz last summer - but two bids of £25million and £30m were turned down.

However, the Gunners may tempt former boss Unai Emery's resolve to keep Luiz by offering Smith Rowe - who the the former Arsenal head coach is a big fan from his time working with the player at the Emirates.

With Arsenal valuing Smith Rowe at around £40m, Villa's pressing requirements to stay within Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules could see the sensational swap take place - certainly with Villa rating the Brazil international at around £42.5m.
