Arsenal Player Ratings after 1-1 draw at Chelsea
Chelsea and Arsenal played out a fiesty 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Moises Caicedo was sent off in the first half for a shocking challenge on Mikel Merino Chelsea but Trevoh Chalobah put the 10 men in front. Prior to Merino equalised on 59 mimnutes for Arsenal
Here's View From The Armchair's unique Player Ratings after Arsenal earned a point at Chelsea: Find out who impressed
David Raya: 8/10 - 47 minutes the ball is nestling in our net, a mix up on the corner Chalobah gets the flick, Mosquera doesn’t get off the ground to clear it 1-0 Chelsea. Otherwise a solid performance today with some goalkeeping duties being required of him for a change.
Jurrien Timber: 7/10 - Anthony Taylor doing everything he can to give Chelsea the win, this is getting a bit Lionel Messi and out of control here, didn’t let anyone down today as the game ends 1-1, a timely reminder that league titles are not handed out in November.
Piero Hincapie: 8/10 - starting in an untried back four today, 4th booking for Arsenal on 40 minutes, straight after the red for Chelsea, with ref Taylor having a stinker. Displayed warrior spirit as he wins a one on one, run Merino close for my pick as MOTM, loving his work today.
Christhian Mosquera: 8/10 - massive test today, booked on 12 minutes by a trigger happy Anthony Taylor, might have done better getting off the ground for Chelsea’s opener.
Riccardo Calafiori: 7/10 - booked on 26 mins, pulled off at half time replaced by Lewis Skelly, indifferent first half in truth, I’m sure his girlfriend will still love him regardless, and rightly so.
Martin Zubimendi: 7/10 - booked on four minutes after a boisterous start by both teams, sacrificed without doing too much wrong as Arsenal chase the game against 10 men in the second half.
Declan Rice: 8/10 - was meant to be in a midfield duel today, that went completely out of the window on 38 minutes when Caicedo nearly broke Merino's ankle and was given a straight red after VAR intervened, leaving the man they call ‘horse’ to once again underline what a thoroughbred he really is - even if Arsenal were forced to settle for a share of the spoils today despite playing 52 minutes against ten men.
Ebere Eze: 7/10 - quiet first half, unable to apply the stamp of individual quality we required as we head down the tunnel all square at 0-0, replaced by Gyokeres on 71 minutes.
Bukayo Saka: 7/10 - whacked very early on by a clown with a perm, coco has gotta be sent off here today surely, manages to wriggle free from his close attention to provide the chipped cross for the equaliser, little bit too wasteful for my liking today.
Mikel Merino: 8.5/10 - holds the ball up well, great in possession, straight red card for Caicedo surely on 36 minutes, being reviewed, straight red it is, overturned, thank VAR, 58 minutes the champions in waiting are level with a powerful header from our makeshift striker, it’s another 8.5 cinnamon buns and the MOTM from me today for his efforts.
Gabi Martinelli: 6/10 - in a game of personal duels all over the pitch today, he went closing to scoring on the stroke of half-time with a scuffed shot down low, other than that largely subdued and quiet today.
Substitutes:
Myles Lewis Skelly 7/10 - on at the start of the second half, replaces Calafiori, pretty quickly becomes the 5th Arsenal player on a yellow, but did his bit in a fiercely contested derby draw at Stamford Bridge.
Noni Madueke: 7/10 - sent on 56 minutes, replaces Martinelli, Arsenal tails are up, as are the away fans in the away end, would have been sweet retribution for the jeers if he could have nicked a winner
Martin Odegaard: 8/10 - Sent into action and replaces Zubimendi as Arsenal look to pull level in a double substitution, we look like a different team offensively when he is on the pitch, that much is apparent, even to this armchair viewing part time pundit.
Viktor Gyokeres: 7/10 - given enough time here to make Himself a legend, but it’s an admirable display from 10 men Chelsea as the spoils are shared in a not too disgraceful 1-1 draw, achieves legend status here as he clatters into the Chelsea keeper as the clock runs down, Ave it, yellow card for his troubles, why not, not many left who aren’t on one here.
Crowd watch:
Blue is not the colour, winning is not their game, not here, not today, Chelsea sluggers, thugs, oiks, rightly reduced to 10 men in the first half after a horrific Caicedo challenge on Merino, quietens down the Chelsea crowd here, which gives me a chance to enjoy the brummie tones of one Smudger smith on the comms, a throwback to the days of FIFA 16.
I’ll take that over Gary Neville all day everyday, three times on a Sunday, it’s 1-1 at the close and that should allow both sets of fans to head home in good spirits, upon reflection it’s probably a fair result.
We're still Top Top, still all to play for, we move, we go again, safe travels home Gooners. COYG !
