Arsenal require Kairat Redemption ahead of crucial clash at Leeds United
Arsenal aim to get back to winning ways this week starting with Champions League victory over Kairat ahead of tough trip to Leeds
The Kairat Redemption
I’m not sure how much redemption is really on the cards for Wednesday night’s dead rubber game against the 36th best team in Europe (still one better than Spurs to be fair) but a very comfortable win against minnows Kairat Almaty has got to be the expectation regardless of how little the game means in the context of the gigantic Champions League table.
We have already automatically guaranteed our place in the Round of 16 having won all seven of our games and we cannot finish outside the top two ensuring we will have home advantage in every knockout round.
Kairat sit rock bottom with a solitary point from their seven games and are already out.
Out of all 18 games that will be taking place simultaneously on Wednesday evening, this one has the least riding on it by far.
I realise I’m not selling this game too well but we’re all going to watch it anyway, aren’t we?
Between now and the end of the season I am sure many of our games across the four competitions we are in contention for will provide us with heart attack inducing stress levels but tomorrow night will be a rare exception. Maybe we should make the most of that.
You wonder how much experimenting Mikel Arteta will do for this game given its lack of importance.
On the one hand a convincing win would be very welcome given Sunday’s gut-wrenching defeat to United in what was undoubtedly the low point of what has been an excellent season so far.
But we are winless in our last three league games, and our confidence could do with a boost ahead of a tricky looking encounter at Leeds on Saturday.
