Arsenal Women's January signing Smilla Holmberg speaks to The Gooner Fanzine

The Swedish right-back discussed her Arsenal debut with Izzy Gilligan

Smilla Holmberg joined Arsenal just last week as the club's first bit of business in this January transfer window.

The 19-year-old Swede joined from Damallsvenskan side Hammarby IF, the club she started her career at.

Holmberg made her Arsenal debut at Emirates Stadium when she came on late in the recent 0-0 WSL draw with Manchester United.

Getting stuck in straight away, the right-back made some impressive runs and almost ended up with an assist when she put a fantastic ball into the box in the dying minutes.

Speaking to The Gooner Fanzine after the game, Holmberg discussed how it felt to begin her career in red and white.

She said: "A very special moment for me, it's a dream come true, and I tried to enjoy it and contribute with my qualities."

New to the WSL, Holmberg expressed her excitement for the rest of the season.

She said: "Very excited to play against top players and top teams.

"There's a big block ahead of us with many tough games, so I think we just have to be focused and keep working."

The Sweden international also spoke about her new life in England, adding:

"It's very nice, a bit different from Sweden but really enjoying it and everyone has been very helpful and kind so it's been very nice."
