Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of Jorginho from Chelsea for £12m.

The former Blues vice-captain joins the Premier League leaders on an 18-month deal - and admits Mikel Arteta was a 'big influence in his decision'.

The experienced midfielder triumphed with Italy at Euro 2020, earning 46 caps in total.

The 31-year-old Brazil-born Italian international has made 143 Premier League appearances, and joins the Gunners with a vast amount of experience of both club and international football under his belt - including nearly 500 club matches during his career.

Manager Mikel Arteta added: “Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience. Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here.

"We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club.”

The transfer sees Mikel Arteta's search for a central midfielder come to an end after their pursuit of Brighton star Moises Caicedo was rebuffed by the Seagulls.

Jorginho added: "He {Arteta] was a big influence because I know that he tried a few times to get me before and it didn't happen due to other reasons, not because of my wishes. So of course, he had a big influence."
