Katie McCabe and Olivia Smith both scored impressive goals from outside the box to help Arsenal Women beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park.
Ireland captain McCabe’s audacious strike found the far corner from range in the 11th minute, before Honaka Hayashi levelled two minutes later from outside the penalty area.
Alessia Russo’s heavy touch off her chest was enough to restore Arsenal’s lead, with the assistant referee flagging the ball had crossed the line. Caitlin Foord smashed in a rebound to make things certain, but the goal was rightly given to Russo on her 100th Women’s Super League appearance.
Substitute Olivia Smith sealed all three points in the 87th minute with a fine half-volley, in what was a second half devoid of quality at a rather quiet Goodison Park. Russo rattled the crossbar deep into stoppage time.
The Gunners also welcomed back Leah Williamson, introduced from the bench late on for her first outing since England's Euro 2025 final win after recovering from a knee injury.
Renee Slegers' side move to second in the WSL table, with the rest of this weekend’s games scheduled for Sunday.
