Arsenal Women left-back Jenna Nighswonger is set for a January loan move, Renee Slegers has revealed.
The Gooner Fanzine understands that Nighswonger is likely to join a fellow Women's Super League side.
Nighswonger became Slegers’ first signing in January 2025, but has rarely featured in Arsenal colours and lost her spot in the USA side as a result.
The full-back will not be involved in the Gunners’ return to action against Manchester United on Saturday. “Jenna will not be in the squad tomorrow and she's close to a loan,” Slegers confirmed in her pre-match press conference.
Asked by the Gooner Fanzine about whether 19-year-old midfielder Laila Harbert will go back out on loan after spending the first half of the season with Portland Thorns, Slegers said “We'll communicate something when there's a clear plan for her to communicate, of course. So you'll hear from us when the plan is ready to communicate.
“She went overseas, of course, so we haven't seen her in a couple months. She's gone back and we've connected on where she stands now as a football player. And what we as a club see is good for her to keep on developing and for her short term, medium term and long term future.
“It's been really good to have her back in the environment to see where she is. Measure yourself with our players, our midfielders. So it’s been really good to see Laila back with us."
