Prologue: A hoodoo will end this week for either Bayern Munich or Arsenal

The evenly poised Champions League quarter-final, second leg clash taking place on Wednesday evening at the state of the art Allianz Arena in Munich will see a curse ended by one of the sides.

With the first leg score ending 2-2 last week at the Emirates, all is to play for in Bavaria this week.

Both side are aiming to smash a Champions League knockout hoodoo by reaching the last four of Europe's premier domestic club competition.

The Bundelisga giants have lost three quarter-finals on the bounce since previously lifting the trophy with the big ears during lockdown back in 2020 - while underwhelming Arsenal have failed to reach the last four since 2009.

Bayern Munich

Wiht Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen lifting the Bundesliga on Sunday for the first time in their history - burning off Bayern's fading challenge in second place, Harry Kane and all - FC Hollywood (as they are called by many in Germany, some disparagingly) their crunbling campaing hinges on whether they win the Champions League.

Belagured boss Thomas Tuchel - who will be leaving the club next month despite having 12 months to run on his contract - is keen to leave Bavaria on a high.

Bayern played with a fierce will to win that belied their mediocre Bundesliga form during the enthralling 2-2 with Arsenal last week - with former Spurs striker Harry Kane (who scored his spot kick against the Gunners last week to put the Germans 2-1 up) will be absolutely desperate to win.

The Allianz Arena is one of the great stadiums of Europe and the world - and there will be a crackling atmosphere - as this Bayern team fights for its legacy ahead of what will be a drastic summer of change for this underperforming squad.

Arsenal are continuing to monitor the fitness of Martin Odegaard who was forced off during Sunday’s damaging defeat to Aston Villa with an unspecified issue.

Jurrien Timber is not yet match fit (he is expected to feature at some stage during Arsenal U21s Premier League 2 trip to Blackburn Rovers next Monday - but otherwise boss Arteta has his entire squad available for selection - and you can't say that too many times this term.
