Carabao Cup third round draw: Arsenal discover opponents

The draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup has been made

Arsenal will make the trip up towards the Potteries to take on League one outfit Port Vale in the third round of the Carabao Cup next month.

It will be the Gunners first meeting with the Valiants since Arsene Wenger's side faced them in the third round of the FA Cup en route to winning the double that season. A good omen perhaps?

The third round fixtures will take place across two weeks, beginning on 15 and 22 September with Champions League and Europa League fixtures also scheduled during this period.

Focus on Vale

Vale currently sit 22nd in League one, still waiting for their first league win of the season, although they did manage to see off Championship Birmingham City in the last round at St Andrews.

They are managed by Darren Moore who has Premier League managerial experience with West Brom a few seasons back.

Port Vale have never played in the top division, and they hold the record for the most seasons in the Football League without reaching the topflight, with 113.

They seldom get to see Premier League visit Vale Park so expect a raucous atmosphere on what should be a wonderful occasion for Vale and their supporters regardless of the result.
