Player Ratings:
Jordan Pickford: 6/10 - England’s best keeper looked unusually uneasy when flapping at a high ball which struck the woodwork during a mix-up with big Dan Burn in the first half
Kyle Walker: 7/10 - The ageless former Manchester City defender now with AC Milan was handed his 94th cap at the soon-to-be age of 35 and provided the gnarly know-how to see longer colleagues through proceedings
Dan Burn: 6/10 - Will surely never be able to match the last few days. Scoring to help his schoolboy team to their first domestic silverware in seven decades, prior to earning his first England call-up 24 hours later at the tender age of 32. What a fairytale even if he looked wobbly at times and will certainly not keep his place in the starting XI by the time the World Cup in America comes around
Ezri Konsa: 8/10 - Covered well at times including a last-gasp tackle midway through the second half to foil a swift Albania counter. A coveted place in the starting XI was reward for a sterling season in the Premier League and the Champions League. Impressed when filling in for Marc Guess during Euro 2024 when the Palace centre-back was suspended for a game, and once again looked the part in the heart of the England backline against Albania
Myles Lewis-Skelly: 10/10 - What a debut. What a start to his England career. A goal in under 20 minutes leaving Gunners and England fans in dreamland. Calm and composed. One would imagine Erling Haaland certainly knows who Arsenal’s talented 18-year-old defender is by now, not least when scoring then mocking the City striker’s Lotus pose during the 5-1 victory against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Emirates in February - after the Norway attacker rudely inquired who the then 17-year-old Gunners youngster was during the combative 2-2 draw at the Etihad back in September. A lot has happened since then, with MLS growing into a generational talent at left-back.
Declan Rice: 8/10 - MLS’ Arsenal teammate is now one of the elder statesmen of the team. Assured and infuential
Curtis Jones: 6.5/10 - Encouraging early forays into the Albania box from the Liverpool man. Subbed for Morgan Rogers as part of triple substitution by Tuchel on 74 minutes
Jude Bellingham: 7.5/10 - The majestic Real Madrid midfielder provided an assist for MLS to score on his debut, all the while dovetailing well with the Arsenal defender and Rashford up and down the left flank
Harry Kane (c): 7/10 - Deserved his well-taken late goal for his all-round work ethic, although the Bayern Munich striker looks less and less mobile these days
Marcus Rashford: 7.5/10 - Enjoying a renaissance under Unai Emery at Villa Park, and will have savoured his first international call-up in a year. Dovetailed well with Lewis-Skelly while looking sharp and lively running the channel on the left flank. Subbed for Anthony Gordon
Phil Foden: 6/10 - Looked rusty rather than out of form, as he grew into the game. While recent performances have been patchy to say the least, but Tuchel knows a good player when he sees one. Foden will do well to reward such loyalty with a few world class performances we all know the City attacker is capable of between now and next summer in America. Switched for West Ham’s Jarrob Bowen during a triple substitution midway through the second half
Substitutes:
Anthony Gordon: While cavorting on the Wembley turf amid the Newcastle celebrations as a non-participant last weekend, the Magpies attacker would surely have enjoyed his appearance on the same stage a week later
Jarrod Bowen: Replaced Foden
Morgan Rogers: 15 months ago Rogers was playing in the Championship for Middlesbrough prior to boosting his career by moving to Aston Villa. Hasn't looked back since, and will have savoured his introduction
