Arsenal right-back Laura Wienroither will leave the Gunners permanently this summer, the Gooner Fanzine understands.
Wienroither joined Manchester City on loan in January after falling out of favour under Renée Slegers, who had preferred teenage defender Katie Reid at right-back when Emily Fox was off the pitch.
The Austria international made five appearances as City finished fourth in the Women’s Super League, before featuring at the inaugural World Sevens tournament in Lisbon.
According to the Gooner’s sources, Reid will wear Wienroither’s number 26 upon her departure. The 18-year-old has been pictured in pre-season training without a number on her kit.
Arsenal reinforced their defensive options with the signing of versatile full-back Taylor Hinds from Liverpool earlier this summer. Left-back Jenna Nighswonger joined from Gotham FC in January.
Wienroither joined Arsenal from Hoffenheim midway through the 2021/22 campaign, but ruptured her ACL against Wolfsburg the following season and was out for nearly a year.
The 26-year-old has made 30 appearances for the Gunners, having battled with Noelle Maritz and then the ever-consistent Emily Fox for the right-back spot. In addition, Arsenal and Slegers rate England youth international, and Gunners academy graduate Reid, very highly.
