FA Cup: Changes for Arsenal vs Wigan gives opportunity for squad to shine
Here's Ian Mills with his take on Arsenal vs Wigan
After Arsenal vs Wigan our next two away games are crucial
There are likely to be wholesale changes for the FA Cup fourth round home tie versus Wigan Athletic which will offer the opportunity for those players who have been less involved so far, to get some valuable game time.
Whatever team we pick should be good enough to take care of the League One side. We then face two away matches in the Premier League.
Due to our participation in the Carabao Cup final, our fixture originally scheduled for that weekend, away to Wolves, has now been brought forward to this coming Wednesday.
There are no other Premier League games all week so this will be hugely scrutinised.
If we win, we will go seven points clear of City before their evening kick off versus Newcastle United on Saturday evening. We then have the North London Derby on Sunday.
We are very much in one game at a time territory however these are two winnable games that we need to the get maximum points return from.
Block out the noise:
– a draw away to Brentford, a team lying seventh in the Premier League and in great form is a decent result.
However, City’s late recovery at Anfield and a comfortable win over Fulham has added pressure whilst reducing our lead to four points.
We still have a superior goal difference. We have played 40 games in all competitions winning 31, drawing six and losing just three. That is an incredible win rate of 77.5%.
We are top of the Premier League by four points, in the Carabao Cup Final, in the Round of 16 in the Champions League and in the Fourth Round of the F A Cup.
We have given ourselves a tremendous platform to build upon – we have a great squad; we have a manager who will give everything to get us over the line.
With so many games coming thick and fast, there is rarely time for reflection on what we have achieved to this point.
There is a long way to go, there will be some further bumps in the round, however I firmly believe we are good enough, now it is down to us to prove we are.
