Prologue
The statistics speak for themselves.
Six wins on the bounce, three goals conceded in nine Premier League games, with another four shutouts in cup competitions this term already.
One of those clean sheets was during the 2-0 win over Port Vale in the Potteries last month, and it is the Carabao Cup that Mikel Arteta's Arsenal once again turn their attentions to this evening when they host Brighton in N5.
For the Gunners to have only lifted this trophy is underachievement on a grand scale, albeit with the memories of being runners-up a whopping six times - more than any other club.
For the North London giants to make it three wins in this competition, they will first have to get past a lively Albion side, complete with in-form former Gunner Danny Welback, who, if he plays, will be sure to be afforded a warm welcome.
Even despite the fact he played a small part in Declan Rice's scandalous sending-off against the Seagulls last August, when part of a braying Brighton cohort that hounded referee Chris Kavanagh to issue a pathetic second yellow card.
That was before the PGMOL quietly changed their focus on cautions for kicking the ball away in the subsuquent weeks. Rice being the first and last player to receive such trecherous treatment, even if the wretched Dermot Gallagher and his ilk embarrassingly toed the line as part of a not fit for purpose old boys' club that is the PGMOL.
Anyway, I digress, here's to a far less contentious match this evening, against a good footballing side, even if calls for Welback to play for England at the tender age of 35 next summer are far wide of the mark.

Arsenal vs Brighton team news
Arsenal have received a boost, though, as Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Riccardo Calafiori are all fit.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to start between the sticks, to make only his second appearance this term.
Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera and Myles Lewis-Skelly could be drafted into the backline, Piero Hincapie could make his full debut.
Teenage sensation Max Dowman, 15, is in the squad and could make an apperance at some stage.
However, the Gunners will be missing William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli after the pair picked up injuries during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Saliba was forced to come off at the break, while. Martinelli ended the game, but was seen limping down the tunnel at the full-time whistle.
What Arteta says
“[Saliba] is out,” said Arteta. “We are assessing him, but he won’t be involved this match.
“It looks as well that [Martinelli] is going to be out. We have to, again, do some more tests and see the extent of the injury.
"But this game is going to be too early for him.”
Head to head
Brighton beat Arsenal 3-1 at this stage of the tournament back in 2022, however, Arsenal lead the head to head.
