Prologue

To Brentford we travel on our latest quest for title glory.

This will be a big test, but I think at this point we are all confident we can and will overcome it.

Brentford are in serious contention for a European spot, currently sat 7th on 39 points, hilariously level with Liverpool.

Following on from the departures of Bryan Mbuemo and Yoanne Wissa last summer, many, including myself, expected them to toil in the relegation battle especially as this was coupled with the departure of manager and lifelong Gooner Thomas Frank to Spurs. I wonder how he’s getting on?

Silver member Frank was replaced with Brentford’s set piece coach, Keith Andrews which raised many eyebrows indeed.

But the Irishman has proved everybody wrong as Brentford look set for their first foray into the continental stage. Just as well Heathrow’s only down the road.

Igor Thiago has been this season’s surprise player as he has come out of nowhere to rack up 18 league goals so far. Only Erling Halaand has more.

Arsenal will also need to watch out for the Bees’ famous long throw ins, even if the Gunners have not lost to Brentford since the Bees first game back in the top division for more than seven decades, that infamous 2-0 loss on the opening game of the season on Friday, August 13, 2021.

We’ve won on each of our last four visits to the Gtech, so lets keep that going.

What the managers say:

Keith Andrews:

"I've got no doubt that [set-pieces] will be a huge part of the game [but] we can cause a lot of chaos ourselves from those situations.

"We're all looking forward to seeing how that story unfolds.

"Arsenal are a really good team. They know how to win football matches, regardless of what's thrown at them throughout games.

"I've got ultimate respect for the way that Mikel Arteta sets up his team and the way he goes about his business, the journey that he's brought the team on, and the mentality that he's instilled in the group.

"Set-pieces have been a part of where they've got to... there are some key components as to why they're so good at them: the delivery, they've got some big players, they're well organised, their timing, and they attack the ball with aggression.

"But, equally, the individuals that they have, whoever they call upon, are seriously talented.

"They're also excellent out of possession, the way they defend as a unit, whether it's high or when they drop low and defend their box.

"A lot of the players have been together for a few years now and you can see those relationships are now pretty tight.

"They're a very, very well-coached team."

Mikel Arteta:

"This league is so competitive. We are all vulnerable because anybody can beat on the day, you know that, and that's really tough to manage."
