Invited to talk about the possible duel between former Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko and new Arsenal striker Gyokeres at Old Trafford, Arteta wisely sidestepped the headline, dialling it down, saying: “I can just talk about Viktor and how happy we are to have him.

"He is going to have a tremendous impact in the team and his adaptation has been really, really good and we are happy to have him.

"Many strikers have come from different leagues and being successful and it's on us to create the right conditions for him [Gyokeres] to be successful."

Arsenal's new £63.5m summer signing Viktor Gyokeres is set to make his Premier League debut at Old Trafford, with Mikel Arteta understood to be throwing the former Coventry City striker immediately into the fray against his old Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim.

Despite the arrival of Kepa, David Raya will start between the sticks, with redoubtable pair William Saliba and Gabriel in front.

Arteta now has genuine competition at full-back, with Ben White and Jurrien Timber on the right, and Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly on the left.

Bukayo Saka will start on the right flank with Gabi Martinelli expected to feature on the left channel, following a lively showing against Bilbao.
