Prologue 

The Lionesses have made it into the knockout stages of Euro 2025, where they take on Sweden in the quarter-finals - and will be aiming to reach their sixth successive semi-final at major tournament. 

Defending champions England are ranked fifth in the world, just one place above Sweden, who finished top of their group.

Sarina Wiegman's side have shown character to ease into the last night after they lost to their opening game to France - by thrashing the Netherlands 4-0 prior to routing sorry Wales 6-1.

Wiegman's side are now aiming to make it to the last four, with confidence high within the England squad, with Ella Toone insisting the Swedes "should be scared".  

However, Sweden captain Kosovare Asllani says they "don't fear" England as the teams prepare to meet.

"We respect England, the team they have and everything they have achieved so far. But fear? No. We don't have the word fear in our dictionary," said Asllani.

"We look up the word courage. Of course you have to respect one of the best sides in the world but we have the perfect gameplan for this match.

"We want to achieve the football we want to represent. In our minds there is only one outcome and that is to win the game."

For their part the Group C winners have been superb, conceding just once and scoring eight times in wins against Denmark, Poland, and Germany. They will also be looking for revenge for their 4-0 semi-final defeat at Euro 2022 when Alessia Russo scored with an impudent backheel on a never-to-be-forgotten night at Bramall Lane three years ago. 

The prize for Thursday's winner will be a semi-final spot against Italy.
