The worries of every Arsenal fan were put to bed last week when the club confirmed that Swiss midfielder Lia Walti had signed a new contract to keep her at the club beyond the end of the season.

Head coach Jonas Eidevall labelled Walti “one of the best midfielders in world football”, and reflected on his two years spent working with her in Tuesday’s press conference.

“I think both when you see her play, but obviously when you spend time with her, you see she has qualities both on the pitch and off the pitch to make a great team, and she obviously has adaptability and versatility in her game.”

“She can adapt to new ideas. I also think she’s an exciting player to work with because sometimes as a coach you also adapt your own ideas to the players that you have, and you always see that she has some unique qualities that you really want to be able to utilise within the team, so I think it’s been both within the two years that we’ve worked together. She’s adapted to some of my ideas and I have adapted to some of her qualities.”

Eidevall also provided an update on the fitness of a number of the Arsenal players. Gio Queiroz will be available to face Everton tomorrow night, with Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord also in contention to make the squad.

However, it is “one game too soon” for Swiss forward Lina Hurtig, who returned from injury to come off the bench in the second leg against Wolfsburg at the start of the Month but has been unable to feature since.
