Let's Get Behind The Arsenal And Cheer Our Team To Victory
Gooner Fanzine print columnist Charlie Ashmore calls for match-going fans to get behind Mikel Arteta's silverware-chasing team with constant support
A plea from me…..
This week has provided Arsenal fans with both ends of the range of emotions that comes with supporting a team fighting for a title.
This is what we all craved during the fallow years.
We have to accept that the path to glory is not a straight line. We will not win every game.
We need to be grown up about this. We can do our bit which is to alleviate not exacerbate the pressure on the players.
I am not talking about the rubbish that gets posted on social media platforms. I suspect, and fervently hope, that the players treat that with the contempt it deserves.
I am talking about the people inside the stadium on matchday.
Our away fans are mostly superb, getting behind the team from start to finish.
At home, sometimes we as fans collectively let the pressure show in our response to events on the pitch.
I know it’s hard, but we have to hold our nerve. The better the atmosphere we create, the more it will help the players.
So for the seven home league games remaining, including against Sunderland on Saturday, not to mention Chelsea tonight, let’s make the stadium a cauldron of supportive noise.
There will be mistakes, misplaced passes, missed tackles and missed chances but hard as it is let’s keep the groans inside and redouble our support.
Let’s help the team win with us not in spite of us.
And then when the day of glory arrives (as it surely must if we all pull together) we will know we did our bit to help.
