Full time: Leuven 0-3 Arsenal. It’s play-offs for the Gunners with results elsewhere not going in their favour, but a very professional display makes it five consecutive wins in all competitions.
90+1’ Four added minutes. 0-3
90’ Mead heads back across goal and she had two players in the six yard box but neither can get there. 0-3
89’ Just wide from Blackstenius just inside the box! Good effort from the Swede. 0-3
85’ Reynders is replaced by Heremans in Leuven’s final change. 0-3
85’ Mead cuts inside past two defenders and curls wide on her left foot, looking for a repeat of her goal. 0-3
84’ And Maanum’s first touch is with her head, nodding a corner wide. She could have scored! 0-3
83’ Final change for Arsenal as Maanum, who missed the win over Everton with a knock, comes on for a tired looking Russo. 0-3
82’ Fox’s left footed cross is headed away. Very little to play for here with Arsenal destined for a play off place. 0-3
79’ I was wrong. The ever versatile McCabe slots into midfield, Foord stays wide. 0-3
76’ Fox comes on for Caldentey who went down off the ball and Arsenal don’t take any chances. McCabe will play on the left wing. 0-3
75’ I could have made a joke about cards at Christmas there. Poor form. 0-3
74’ The Leuven manager is booked- he’s been complaining about a few things in this second half. 0-3
73’ More Leuven changes as Bosteels and Neyrinck on for Mertens and Kuijpers. 0-3
72’ Foord heads wide from Blackstenius’ powerful cross. 0-3
70’ And it goes down as a Janssen own goal. I had a big debate about those adjudications the other week- would love to see them given to the forwards more. The goalscorer and defender would both agree, surely? 0-3
The goal stands! 0-3
67’ Goal, but the offside flag is up! Cooney-Cross spins and opens up the midfield to thread through Foord, and her shot is deflected past the goalkeeper. This looks on and should stand. 0-2
67’ Goal, but the offside flag is up! Cooney-Cross spins and opens up the midfield to thread through Foord, and her shot is deflected past the goalkeeper. This looks on and should stand. 0-2
67’ That could be a hammer blow- Chelsea take the lead against Wolfsburg, so Arsenal are now out of the top four by a point as things stand. 0-2
65’ Arsenal change as Blackstenius replaces Little, so Russo and Caldentey drop deeper. Foord and Williamson also come on for Smith and Catley. 0-2
63’ Smith breaks forward on the counter after Arsenal deal with Leuven’s corner but she’s well challenged by Janssen. Russo then shoots straight at the keeper. 0-2
60’ Valerenga are now 3-0 down so Leuven will surely qualify for the playoff round regardless of their own result. 0-2
57’ Reynders shoots wide for Leuven after Wubben-Moy headed away Everaerts’ cross. 0-2
56’ Smith drives an effort straight at Seynhaeve who saves easily enough. 0-2
54’ Worth noting that Leuven will reach the playoff round anyway, as Valerenga trail 2-0 to Bayern Munich. Not to say they have nothing to play for, but their job could well be done. 0-2
51’ KCC alongside Little with Caldentey further forward has undoubtedly been a success. The balance just looks better all round. 0-2
46’ The second half is underway. 0-2
Dekker and De Cuester replace Nagy and Herman for Leuven.
The teams are back out for the second half- Arsenal are unchanged.
So after tonight Arsenal have one more game before the winter break, away to Crystal Palace in the League Cup quarter-finals. That’s on Sunday at 1pm, with another sizeable away crowd expected.
Comfortable half for Arsenal with two well-taken goals and very little threat from the home side. Arsenal 5th in the table as things stand.
Half time: OH Leuven 0-2 Arsenal.
45+1’ One added minute as Smith gets up gingerly following a challenge before Mead’s shot is well saved. 0-2
43’ Nearly a rare goal for Wubben-Moy! She meets a cross from deep with her head and Seynhaeve just about saves on the line. 0-2
42’ Caldentey’s free-kick is aimed for the top right corner and has to be pushed over by Seynhaeve. 0-2
39’ Smith beats Nagy well and gets into the box but Veefkind is back to stick a foot in and win the ball. Arsenal have made the pitch look huge. 0-2
37’ Leuven defender Mertens is found a long way from goal from their corner and fires her shot high wide and not very handsome. 0-2
36’ Russo drags a scuffed effort wide on the edge of the box after being found by Caldentey. 0-2
35’ Arsenal look good in this first half, comfortable. Leuven have been too passive and really struggled to build anything. 0-2
32’ McCabe’s corner is spilt by the goalkeeper Seynhaeve but the home side are able to clear before Cooney-Cross could get a shot away. 0-2
27’ What a goal Beth Mead! She’s found in the box by Russo and cuts in onto her left foot before slamming the ball into the far corner. 0-2
26’ Catley clears a Leuven cross as Borbe continues to wait for her first action. 0-1
24’ Well, there’s no sign of Arsenal going hell for leather to get the goal difference up but Leuven are not a side to risk that on. For me, it’s about getting the job done, and anything else is a bonus. 0-1
18’ Goal! Smith has been very dangerous and her first shot is saved before she rifles in the rebound to open her Champions League account! She’s had so much space to exploit on the left and makes the pressure pay. 0-1
16’ Big save by Seynhaeve down to her right to deny Russo as the Arsenal crosses keep coming. 0-0
16’ Fantastic- Arsenal’s away following at Leuven is confirmed to be their largest ever in Europe aside from a final. 0-0
13’ Low cross from Calentey is collected by Seynhaeve as Russo ran in. 0-0
11’ Excellent recovery tackle by Hinds at right back after Pusztai sparked a counter attack. She’s really impressed this season has the summer signing, when she’s had opportunities. 0-0
7’nCaldentey drifts into the right wing and Arsenal keep the ball well as Leven drop deep. Good atmosphere so far. 0-0
3’ First chance! Smith sends her marker for dead and crosses for Russo, who heads straight at Seynhaeve. 0-0
1’ We’re underway! Leuven in white pinstripe shirts, Arsenal ther blue away kit. 0-0
My housemate is actually from Leuven so I possess extra knowledge. They’re owned by the same owners as Leicester City, and won the Belgian top flight last season to qualify for this competition. It’s a very very young side.
The knockout phase draw, by the way, is midday tomorrow. The higher Arsenal finish will be important in terms of who they face, meaning a win here is important even if they don’t make the quarter finals.
Here come the teams at a sold out Stadion den Dreef!
Leuven manager Arno van den Abbeel: "Arsenal plays with a lot of intensity, power, and strength. We're prepared for that. After the analysis, we'll see what we can bring ourselves and neutralise their strengths. As in every match, there will be chances. Everyone has grown through this European story. We've gained a lot of confidence and maturity. I saw that on Saturday against Anderlecht. We had little stress or panic. We've matured a lot."
Renee Slegers: “It's an important one for us. It's the last one in the Champions League and we go for the three points. It's not within our hands [to finish in the top four], but we will try to chase those top four positions. But Leuven will also go for something, so it's going to be an interesting game. All games will be played at the same time, so scenarios can change in an instant. But of course, we're happy with the last three games and look forward to tomorrow.”
And it's a sellout at the Stadion den Dreef, the largest attendance for a women's football match in Belgium! Over 1,000 Arsenal fans are there too- a remarkable away following once more.
Leuven have qualified for Europe for the first time and could still make the play-offs, providing Valerenga don't shock Bayern Munich in Bavaria.
Seven sides are above Arsenal in the Champions League table but the Gunners can still make the top four. Renee Slegers admitted in her press conference that her coaching staff will ensure to keep an eye on scorelines elsewhere in case goal difference could come into play.
Jenna Nighswonger misses out (well, that's probably not news) with a foot injury (that is), whilst Victoria Pelova is ill and doesn't make the squad.
Disney Plus reporter Shebahn Aherne says that Arsenal reportedly have nine "key" players out of contract next summer- she's not the first person to have mentioned that sort of number. Alex Scott is presenting- "I don't know what's going on at Arsenal. I've been in the Australian jungle!"
Taylor Hinds and Olivia Smith come into the Arsenal side that beat Everton 3-1 on Saturday, with Emily Fox and Caitlin Foord the players to make way.
Leuven subs: Lammertijn, Demol, Ruymen, Papatheodorou, Bosteels, De Ceuster, Heremans, Bosmans, Dekker, Conijnenberg, Van den Brande, Neyrinck.
Leuven: Seynhaeve, Everaerts, Mertens, Veefkind, Nagy; Pusztai, Hermans, Biesmans; Reynders, Kuijpers, Janssen.
Subs: Liddiard, Fox, Williamson, Codina, Harwood, Maanum, Foord, Blackstenius.
Arsenal: Borbe; McCabe, Catley, Wubben-Moy, Hinds; Little, Cooney-Cross; Mead, Caldentey, Smith; Russo.
Anyway, team news is in. Two changes for Arsenal, with two summer signings coming into the side.
Arsenal have already sealed their spot in the play-off phase, but can reach the quarter-finals automatically if they beat Leuven and other results go their way. It could be complicated...
Good evening and welcome to our coverage of Arsenal Women's trip to Belgium to face OH Leuven.
