Mikel Arteta Arsenal suspension confirmed
Mikel Arteta will serve a sideline ban when Southampton host Arsenal on the final day of the Premier League season.
The Basque was handed his third yellow card of the campaign during the Gunners 1-0 win over Newcastle United at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon that all but clinched Premier League runners-up spot, barring Manchesrter City winning their last two games of the season and overturning a 10 goal deficit while also requiring Arsenal to lose at relegated Southampton.
Shortly after Eddie Howe's side were awarded a throw-in, Arteta passed a ball onto the pitch. However, the Arsenal boss was judged to have delayed the restart by referee Simon Hooper, who gave a caution - meaning that having picked up his third booking of the season, Arteta must now serve a one-match ban.
Arteta will not be permitted on the sidelines when Southampton welcome the north Londoners to St Mary's next weekend, on Sunday, May 25.
