My top three Arsenal Players of the Season 2024-25
Here's Ian Mills with his Top Three Arsenal Players of 2024-25
Firstly, honourable mentions for the following:
Honourable mentions firstly to Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri who both enjoyed breakout seasons in the first team.
MLS has played himself into serious contention as our starting left back, his goal followed by mimicking Haaland’s celebration in our barnstorming 5-1 win was the perfect riposte to the Norwegian’s jibes at the end of the 2-2 draw at The Etihad in September.
His confidence on the ball as he moves into his natural midfield position belies his tender years – he has a huge future ahead.
Nwaneri meanwhile scored nine goals including some tremendous finishes including a brilliant fifth in the aforementioned thrashing of City. Gabriel was superb throughout the campaign as our ‘King of Brazil’ proved himself a matchwinner in both penalty areas, the highlight being the winner in the North London Derby in September.
However, my top three players are as follows:
Third place – Jurrien Timber
– to recover from an ACL injury and play 48 games is remarkable enough, to perform so well that we did not miss White’s quality in the right back berth is a testimony to Timber’s consistency. He scored a first Arsenal goal in the home league win against Manchester United and added another in the rout at PSV.
Second place – Declan Rice
– he might have won this had had his best form not alluded him until the turn of the year. However, in 2025 he has been the driving force of the team with his two fantastic free kicks versus Real Madrid proving pivotal in overcoming the reigning Champions League holders in the quarter finals.
He scored nine goals and provided 10 assists including the crucial winner at home to Newcastle to secure Champions League football (and effectively second place). Many Gooners remarked that this his form in the second half of the season was that of a Captain as our Skipper suffered a loss of form. Rice’s versatility to play as either a No6 or No8 is a huge asset to the side and he is only going to get better.
First place – David Raya
– David became the first Arsenal goalkeeper to retain the Golden Glove award as his 13 clean sheets allowed him to share the accolade with Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels.
If last season most fans needed convincing of why Arteta had vanquished Ramsdale in favour of the Spainard, there can be no doubters any more. Raya has made a serious of stunning saves throughout the season.
He also seem to perfect the art of the double save with a great penalty stop away to Atalanta in our first Champions League game followed by a great reactionary second save, he made an incredible double save away to Aston Villa and did the same in injury time at Old Trafford. He also formed a virtual one-man line of defence to repel incessant first half attacks in May at home to Newcastle in a vital game in the race for a Champions League place.
His performance in the FA Cup Third Round penalty shootout exit to United was below par although he did save a penalty in the Champions League semi-final second leg.
His ability to start attacks with tremendous passing range is a huge advantage for us also.
