Player Ratings: Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool
Here's View From The Armchair with his Player Ratings after Arsenal's frustrating goalless draw with Liverpool
David Raya: 8/10 - Skimming balls like a boy scout skims his first pebble across a still lake on a calm summers morning here early doors just to get a feel for the conditions, 26 mins gets away with one as Liverpool hit the bar before half time.
Jurrien Timber: 7/10 – He’s so tough he’ll steal ya pocket money, steal ya lunch money tickets, man’s gonna steal your grandads watch if you don’t hold onto it tight. And your Gameboy. Didn’t let anyone down tonight as the spoils are shared at the Grove
William Saliba: 8/10 – Shoutout for a shutout. A solid performance
Gabriel: 8/10 – A clean sheet for our King of Brazil.
Piero Hincapie: 8/10 - so good I barely noticed a single time he was called not action in the first half, more invisible than Merino and he was on the bench. Subbed off for MLS.
Martin Zubimendi: 7/10 - biggest stage of the season so far, covering at the back when we could have probably left it to Raya as Arsenal turned the screw late in the first half, before Liverpool balanced it somewhat in the second half.
Declan Rice: 7/10 - orchestrating, almost allowing the others to shine, went as close as we came in the first half with a skinmer of a shot. Tireless as Arsenal picked up a hard-earned point.
Martin Odegaard: 7/10 - probing, always looking for the decisive ball, the killer ball, the one that matters. I see it every game, he brings something no one else other than maybe Eze who can, perhaps, bring that to this team, but for now he is on the bench for bigger hurdles yet to overcome, subbed 77 mins, for Eze.
Bukayo Saka: 8.5/10 - the competition Noni Madueke brings for his place is evidently on show as the Greenford troublemaker moves through the gears into va va voom territory early doors in this game, super hungry to make his mark, decent display tonight that wins my POTM pick for what it’s worth, COYG !!
Viktor Gyokeres: 7/10 - not only does he look like he’s wearing jeans, it looks like he has lead boots on as well, I saw his shooting practice vids in the week, let’s see the real thing man, feed the Gyok, and he will score, nice fade though. 49 minutes saw his first telling contribution when plowing into Frimpong with the ball already out of play, Night’s work was done shortly afterwards when making way for Jesus.
Leo Trossard: 7/10 - 11 minutes in he’s booked for an innocuous looking challenge. It’s the same ref who was trigger happy against Chelsea away. Our grey-haired squirrel was mostly slippery, jinking left, jinking right. Made way for Martinelli on 64 minutes.
Substitutes:
Myles Lewis Skelly: 8/10 – Needed to be stronger in the air at times. Use your height, we have faced taller players than Liverpool’s frontline when MLS left big Geordie Dan Burn on his haunches.
Gabi Martinelli: 8/10 - some second half game changing antics would have been most welcome as we moved into squeaky bum time but the only thing Gabi provided was the chance for cretins Gary Neville and Roy Keane to spout fake moral outrage over his non incident with Bradley.
Jesus: 7/10 - onto the pitch on 64 minutes - bonus point for doing more than Viktor in 20 odd minutes than he did in 70, I’m nearly ready to ship him back to Coventry.
Ebere Eze: 8/10 - all I heard was 'Eze, time for the match winners to come on,' within seconds had the Scousers pooping their pants as the pendulum swung but sadly couldn't help break the deadlock even if Arteta understands the potential for the former Palace attacker to come off the bench and change a game.
Noni Madueke: 7/10 - Replaced Saka as the clock ticked down, and within seconds he ripped Liverpool a new one on the right. Alas it wasn't to be as the spoils are shared at the Grove.
