Player Ratings: Arsenal 2-1 Wolves

Here's View From The Armchair with his Player Ratings after Arsenal's last-gasp victory over Wolves to move five points clear

David Raya: 7/10 - the only thing missing from his game tonight was 50 keepy uppys to to the halfway line, and maybe a reminder to not go over the halfway line, had to use his hands once from a breakaway wolves attack which is naturally quite disappointing, bonus point for the audacity of entering Wolves half in the first half. Although, to be fair, I wouldn't be so jaunty right now if the score had stayed 1-1...

Pierre Hincapie: 7/10 - another three points in the journey towards the big one.

Ben White: 6/10 - pulled up with his hamstring on 31 minutes, replaced by MLS. Arteta said wisely afterwards: “We were buying tickets for another injury but we don’t have anyone else…”

Jurrien Timber: 7/10 - very happy to have JT back

William Saliba: 7/10 - Looked like he came back into the real with renewed professionalism tonight, and boy am I glad to see Rolls Royce No2 back in the first team tonight

Martín Zubimendi: 5/10 - oiked off on 56 minutes. Has his head in his hands, as Arteta takes no prisoners in his attempts to get the opening goal, the message is loud and clear to all, if you ain’t cutting it, we have the squad now to do the job.

Declan Rice: 7.5/10 - Man like horse so nearly repeated his Real Madrid heroics on 65 minutes as he went close with a fiercely driven free kick. Played his part in feeding Saliba, who in turn played the ball to Saka, who beat his man for Jesus to pressure the defender into heading into his own net  in squeaky bum time.

Ebere Eze: 5/10 - it was such a maverick performance tonight, that he was substituted and replaced by Odegaard on 57 minutes and still looked effortlessly cool as he strolled his way to a well deserved rest. We have bigger fish to fry this season than a half baked Wolves team languishing bottom of the table - but we still needed to beat them, You can't win a title in December but you can't certainly lose one.

Gabriel Martinelli: 6.5/10 - harshly bought off on 56 minutes, went the closest we came to scoring shortly before he was subbed off. His substitution underlined that we have now got the squad to cope, as he was replaced by our silver squirrel chestnut robbing goal scoring Belgian goal machine Leo Trossard.

Viktor Gyökeres: 5/10 - gonna knock a point off for not having a box fresh skin fade, the Arsenal fans deserve more, we can’t be paying a striker 250k a week to not get this right, it’s mandatory, he should know better, he has let himself down. Oh no tell a lie it’s quite a good haircut, he can have it back. Still needs a goal to go with that haircut though...

Bukayo Saka: 8/10 - lively, spritely, cutting in left and right, 70 minutes he delivers a pin point curling shot from the corner flag, which hits the post comes back and hits the goal keepers bonce and hits the onion bag, 1-0 Arsenal. Massive massive moment in this season provided by Starboy. My POTM tonight.

Substitutes:

Miles Lewis Skelly: 7/10 - might have won us a red card as a Wolves player slid in with studs up, didn’t out jump anyone, which is disappointing considering his height advantage over most players, but played his part

Martin Odegaard: 7.5/10 - bought on to replace Eze, the message is loud and clear here, he have the squad to change things about, there are no big time Charlie’s, not in this dressing room, team work make the dream work, like it, loathe it, chin up that’s how it is now.

Gabriel Jesus: 9/10 - A Christmas miracle. Our result was never really in doubt was it eh? Despite the keeper's own goal, we even allow Wolves to get back into the game at 90 minutes. That was before captain Saka provided the assist for Jesus' glorious glanced header to make it 2-1 in injury time. Providing scenes and limbs not seen at Ashburton Grove since Danny Welbeck scored against Leicester. You. Love. To. See. It.

Mikel Merino: 7/10 - replaced Zubimendi as he makes the walk of shame of being pulled off on 56 minutes, thankfully not to a chorus of boos as Eboue had to endure in the late Wenger years, a sign of improvements made under Arteta’s skilled man manangent.
