Find out who impressed with our Gooner Fanzine Player Ratings after another magnificent performance, this time against Bayern Munich.
Read on for View From The Armchair's unique Player Ratings on a memorable evening to be a Gooner.
David Raya: 8/10 - three rapid first touch passes it’s 1-1, Bayern easily showing us they are the closest team we have seen this season close to our level. Should have probably used his hands for Munchen’s opener. Still it beats having only 10 outfield players on the pitch.
Jurrien Timber: 8/10 - 20 minutes 1-0 JT, with the header on the 6 yard box from Saka’s pinpoint cross, shout out to the unavailable Phil Foden for teaching Saka how to take a corner, Manuel Neuer don’t like it up him.
William Saliba: 8/10 - Rolls Royce No2 purring on on the whole apart from a little wobble before half time, put Harry Kane in his pocket, stole his lunch money, his bus pass and his gameboy colour tonight, cest magnifique.
Mosquera: 8/10 - looks good at the heart of this defence alongside Saliba, amazing to be able to have him in rotation with Hincapie, unbelievably close to getting a headed goal on 59 mins, turned Harry Kane into Harry whooooo as the game wore on.
Myles Lewis Skelly: 7/10 - getting his minutes in, on the biggest of stages, well rested, marathon not a sprint, if we make it to the final he will be sprinting through the lines, Tuchel, touché. (Can’t lie he looked like he has lacked minutes)
Eberechie Eze: 8/10 - Munchen unbeaten in 21 games, was still on the pitch to place the perfect pass over the top for Martinelli to run onto, to make it 3-1, Phil Foden couldn’t have played that pass better. A beautiful sight seeing him embrace Odegaard with 10 mins left 3-1 to the good against the top competition we are likely to face all season.
Martin Zubimendi: 8/10 - On 20 minutes does his bit to stir this crowd by hungrily chasing down and winning a corner, which we go 1-0 up from. Do not sleep on this man’s tenacity in the challenge and his ability to come away with the ball, world class.
Declan Rice: 9/10 - MOTM for me, Showed his class on the highest stage, the only thing missing from his performance was missing having Phil Foden alongside him to help him out with a slide rule 5 yard pass.
Bukayo Saka: 7/10 - three of them man marking him tonight, 21 minutes he gets an assist that should really be claimed by Zubimendi. Given a breather on 68 minutes and it’s great to be able to even type that, we are 3-1 up against Bayern, normally five goals adrift at this stage against this lot historically.
Mikel Merino: 8.5/10 - industrious all game and the most involved I have seen him all season,I probably don’t give him his cinnamon buns as much as I should, but tonight Jeff, I’m giving him 8.5 of them.
Leo Trossard: 7/10 - 37 minutes he’s limping off no chestnuts in his cheeks tonight, a tough 37 minutes, as he also found himself marked by three players everytime he had the ball, hope his injury is not too bad.
Substitutes:
Noni Madueke: 8/10 - gets a chance to shine, to find some form after his lay off from injury, scrappy start, but boy did he grow into this match, sweeps home on 69 minutes for 2-1
Martin Odegaard: 8/10 - on for Eze who had a quiet night after his heroics against Spurs, super happy to see him back for us after his injury lay off, a game of two halves tonight, ultimately putting any Bayern team to the sword is a joy to behold.
Gabi Martinelli: 8/10 - on for Saka on 67 minutes, Super Dec gets his very first taste of the captains armband as a result of this change, Manuel Neur does not like it up him, not at this pace, it’s first touch world class sexiness as Eze earns his 8/10 for the pass, and the Martinelli express shows his natural finishing ability off the bench (again)
Riccardo Calafiori: 8/10 - on for Lewis Skelly, two minutes later produces a whipped cross it’s 2-1, just as cool as ya like, the mane, the aura, the girlfriend stamping her mark all over him, the Ferrari on the driveway no doubt, I’ll be disappointed if he turns up in anything less than a Ferrari.
Ben White: 8/10 - on for Timber, on a historic night at the Grove, Bayern Munich of all teams sussed out, weighed up and then dispatched in the second half, bonus point for his patience, another bonus point for not getting skinned. Ave it, we go again, but whisper it quietly, the quadruple is on.
Crowd watch: ya really feel the moans and the groans on the telly, as Saka goes down with a nosebleed on 16 minutes, Tuchel is in the stands, and the Munich fans seemed in good voice.
We needed our crowd to get riled up before the goal I swear it, this was the biggest test of this season so far, and it’s been a tough opening phase.
Thankfully, the crowd finally find their voices as Madueke sweeps home what appears to be the winner, Martinelli puts a cherry on the top - but the crowd need to do more to whip this team up,before a goal arrives.
Maybe I’m a dreamer and I’m asking for too much, all in all it’s another top night from the Gunners, let’s put Chelsea to bed next, we move, COYG!
