Player Ratings: Arsenal grab point after magical Martinelli's late leveller
Here's View From The Armchair's Player Ratings after Arsenal's Gabi Martinelli grabbed a late goal to earn a point
Magical Martinelli's late goal secured a point for the Gunners on a glorious autumnal day at the Emirates, after Erling Haaland put Pep Guardiola's side 1-0 up in the ninth minute.
Find out who impressed during Arsenal's 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Emirates to move Mikel Arteta's Gunners back into secodn spot in the Premier League
David Raya: 7/10 - powerless to stop Haaland ripping Arsenal apart like a Christmas present the back on eight minutes.
Jurrien Timber: 7/10 - booked at the start of the second half. Subbed off for Martinelli on 79 mins as City parked the bus, the team coach, and a tube train to try and hold onto their slender lead. Disclaimer: They failed.
William Saliba: 7/10 - unable to get a tackle in against Haaland for the opener, had a steady game otherwise, while an increasingly defensive City threw on what seemed like 11 defenders.
Gabriel: 7/10 - will have been horrified to see his man shake him loose and open the scoring on nine mins, no clean sheet today, I’d give him a wide berth tonight and leave him well alone, he’s not gonna be chuffed about it.
Riccardo Calafiori: 7/10 - can we please get someone, anyone other than Neville on the comms for Arsenal games, Smudger Smith was never this biased, a steady game from our Italian maestro.
Mikel Merino: 7/10 - a shaky, nervous start to the match, pulled off at half time for Eze, as Gary Neville gleefully piled in on the criticism for the start of the second half.
Martin Zubimendi: 7/10 - shot narrowly over the bar after the interval, unable to pick the lock as the game became a training session of attack vs defence.
Declan Rice: 8/10 - plenty of involvement early doors, lost the ball twice through misplaced passes, in the second half which is the first time I’ve seen that happen, still probably our best player on a frustrating day for the Arsenal.
Noni Madueke: 7/10 - saw plenty of action early on down the right, looked sharp, harshly replaced at half time by Saka as Arteta looks to find a way back into the game.
Viktor Gyokeres: 7/10 - as predicted by yours truly, no fresh skin fade this week, worryingly innocuous today, against one of the biggest guns in the division, still ran his knackers off as he continually chased lost causes.
Leo Trossard: 7/10 - strangely picked ahead of Martinelli on the left, must have been on it in training this week, think he’s dyed his bonce as well this week, subbed on 83 mins for Nwaneri
Substitutes:
Bukayo Saka: 7/10 - not a bad option to be able to bring on for the in form Madueke, had a busy second half, found himself out on the left as Arsenal pressed for the equaliser, happy to see him back for us.
Eberechie Eze: 8/10 - this is where I want to see him, in the true No10 position, orchestrating, threading through balls, being a menace, our man with the assist for the leveller in injury time, get in, it’s 1-1 and a shared point.
Gabi Martinelli: 8/10 - 93 minutes he’s the main man again, gets between the last man and Donnaruma, and shows a delightful first touch for a dinked finish to gain a share of the spoils. Lovely. Are you online clowns ready to get off his back yet and get behind him and the team, the fans in the ground showed you the way, and we are gonna need you to remain together to do great things this season.
Ethan Nwaneri : 7/10 - nothing to report as the spoils are shared here today at the Emirates, we will take a point and remain as one as we shut off the criticism and the naysayers.
Mosquera: 7/10 - on for Zubimendi in the dying seconds of the match, but Liverpool are the winners today, make no mistake.
Crowd watch: 10/10 - you were our man of the match today, so so happy to see the crowd remain with the boys as they pressed, it wasn’t a disastrous performance by any stretch of the imagination as Arsenal dominated the possession (66%) and kept City pushed back.
You stayed with them, and were rewarded with the late late equaliser for what could be a valuable point come next May.
In the meantime we've got Port Vale in the week, so safe travels home from Stoke Gooners. COYG !
