Young Guns stage thrilling recovery from 2-0 down to win 3-2 after Max Dowman sparks comeback
Here's Nick Manfredi with his report and ratings from Meadow Park
Arsenal fought back valiantly from 2-0 down to secure a 3-2 draw on a nippy afternoon at Boreham Wood.
Arsenal had started the game brightly forcing the Wolves keeper into a couple of smart saves.
Max Dowman, who was a slightly surprising inclusion given his first team exploits in recent weeks, looked particularly bright. But ten minutes before half time, Wolves were awarded a penalty which was converted cooly by Tawenda Chirewa.
The visitor's lead was very much against the run of play. Shortly after half time, things got even more difficult for Max Porter’s side as Mateus Mane unleashed a rocket of a strike from the edge of the area.
At that point it looked as though the Young Guns had a mountain to climb. But they found a way back into proceedings a few minutes later as Andre Harriman-Annous halved the deficit with an instinctive finish. And only five minutes later Arsenal were level.
Dowman received the ball on the right and turned his full back inside out, back to front and upside down before cooly slotting home at the near post.
It looked as though we were heading for a draw but just as we did against Brighton, we found a way to turn one point into three right at the death.
The home side won a penalty and Harriman-Annous calmy dispatched it home. Max Porter will be delighted with the character and mental resilience shown by his side to fight back from 2-0 down against a very dangerous side.
The result puts Arsenal onto seven points from a possible twelve after four games.
