David Raya: 8/10 - he can’t be tired, running and bossing the defence and midfield all season. No need for Kepa here tonight, thank goodness, he’s had his busiest night of the season tonight, even had to use his hands on multiple occasions.

Myles Lewis-Skelly: 7/10 - get this lad some minutes and some more England caps, it’s a makeshift defence and it shows, Brugge are making us earn this tonight, despite that he gets his clean sheet and the minutes he needs under his belt.

Piero Hincapié: 7/10 - Arsenal prove themselves to be too good, too strong for Brugge tonight, as thankfully the players return to form despite the cacophony of negativity that surrounded an unfortunate result at Villa Park, even with a makeshift back four, replaced by Calafiori on 62 minutes

Christian Nørgaard: 8/10 - question marks may have had to be pointed in the direction of Arteta if this went wrong tonight, square pegs, round holes, can only imagine he has been banging on the managers door demanding minutes and saying I’ll play anywhere. However, it pays off as we run out comfortable winners with a bonus point for the former Brentford midfleder after helping his backline to clean sheet in an unfamiliar position.

Ben White: 7/10 - he hasn’t let anyone down tonight considering he has had fewer minutes than Lewis Skelly, thankfully for us getting more England calls is not a concern, replaced by Salmon late on. Booked.

Mikel Merino: 7/10 - did a great job of being in the right place at the right time in front of this makeshift back four tonight alongside fellow compatriot Zubimendi.

Martín Zubimendi: 7.5/10 - one minute into the second half with the pinpoint cross and assist to make it 2-0 to Open Play FC while also posting his second assist of a profitable night. Would perhaps have liked to see him rested as well when we were 3-0 up - such is his importance to this team in the eyes of this armchair viewing pundit. No wonder the traveling fans sang his praise with their own festive-tastic version of Wham's Last Christmas.

Martin Ødegaard (c): 8/10 - thankfully he has not let the torrent of criticism from the Villa performance affect his confidence and ability to get on the ball and dictate play. I don’t care how bad he plays, you are not going to be able to convince me he doesn’t bring something different to this team no other player we possess can.

Gabriel Martinelli: 8.5/10 - keep playing him into tip top form, the rewards will come, 55 minutes he cuts inside from the right and curls a screamer into the top right hand corner, 3-0 Arsenal, Brugge are deflated. Gabi got better and better the longer the game went on, as the pathetic online boo boys silence reaches deafening heights.

Viktor Gyökeres: 7/10 - he’s huffing and puffing tonight, sadly not able to knock Bruges' house down tonight as he is replaced by Gabriel Jesus on 62 minutes. For tonight it doesn’t matter though as we are 3-0 to the good as he departs the action. It’s definitely not been an easy start to his career in Arsenal colours though, that much is apparent.

Noni Madueke: 9/10 - wow, 24 mins, strips past two players just inside the halfway line before lashing it home top right corner from 30 yards out. A special goal that. 1-0 to the Arsenal. Got his second of the night straight from the kick off, with a header from one yard out to make it 2-0 to the Gunners. Narrowly edged out Odegaard for the PotM merits from my privileged view.

Substitutes:

Riccardo Calafiori: 7/10 - joined the makeshift back four on 62 minutes. Had he got the discipline in him to not join Jesus up front? immediately slotted into centre back, not long before he is seen rampaging up front. Didn’t I read somewhere that Italian defenders are meant to be the most tactically aware on the planet? Not this one, and I can’t help but love to see it. Booked for a rugby tackle at the end but you can;t have everything.

Gabriel Jesus: 8/10 - a welcome return in Arsenal colours for our enigmatic Brazilian centre forward, how relieved will he be just to feel the turf underneath his boots, goes close as he hits the bar as the clock ticks down, bonus point for just getting onto the pitch after torn cruciates. I know myself how painful they are, it’s why I watch my football from the sofa these days...

Bukayo Saka: 7/10 - on for Odegaard on 71 minutes, immediately gets the captains armband, easy money as Arsenal run out comfortable winners 3-0 COYG !!

Ethan Nwaneri: 7/10 - on alongside Saka as he replaces Madueke, as Arteta underlines once again that he might actually know what he is doing as manager of Arsenal, and might not need to pay any attention whatsoever to the millions of Arsenal football managers online who think they know better. Unlucky to not find himself on the scoresheet as he went close to adding the fourth goal with moments remaining.

Marli Salmon: 7/10 - on for Ben White, a huge moment for the lad as he enters the fray on the highest stage no less, bonus point for making his debut in the Champions League.

In Arteta I trust, that’s it, he’s the manager, big up to the travelling faithful out there who made the journey, they know this to be the truth, a triumphant up yours to the online keyboard idiots who are still crying over losing three points up at Villa Park. It’s football, it happens, get over yourselves. Besides we woz robbed!

Safe travels home after plenty of those Belgium beers including our editor Layth and his Arsenal pals.
