Viktor Gyokeres scores two goals to help rampant Arsenal rout Atletico Madrid: Find out who impressed with View From The Armchair's Player Ratings

Arsenal scored four goals in 14 minutes to blitz Atletico Madrid and post a statement victory in the Champions League.

A brace from Viktor Gyokeres was preceded by the opener from Gabriel, prior to Gabi Martinelli doubling the lead - before Arsenal's bustling Swedish striker grabbed a pair to leave Diego Simeone and his side shellshocked.

David Raya: 8/10 - nearly punished on 24 mins, still desperate to get upfield regardless, forced to use his hands on 84 minutes with a great save from Conor Gallagher to preserve his clean sheet.

Jurien Timber: 8/10 - strong, powerful, linking perfectly with Saka, he keeps on getting better in an Arsenal shirt, another dominant performance at the heart of this defence.

William Saliba: 8/10 - calm and composed at the back, 4-0 winners against a Diego Simeone side, we will take that all day long every day

Gabriel: 8.5/10 - with the header, it’s 1-0, all he had to do was meet the ball, such was the quality on Rice’s free kick, also chimed in with a headed assist for Viktors’s second, and Arsenals fourth on 71 mins.

Myles Lewis Skelly: 8/10 - getting those minutes he allegedly was short of tonight as he started ahead of Riccardo Caliafiori. Looked well rested to me as he surged through midfield to set up Martinelli for the second goal on the night.

Declan Rice: 8.5/10 - superb whipped in free kick for Gabriel’s opener, determined as anyone to keep the clean sheet, the quality on display he keeps on delivering every time he laces up his boots is hard to ignore.

Martin Zubimendi: 8/10 - bigger the game, the easier he gets on the eye, given a chance to have a breather as he departs the field 4-0 to the good on 72 mins, replaced by Norgaard.

Eberechi Eze: 8/10 - Unlucky to not get on the scoresheet early with a deflected shot that hit the crossbar, replaced by Ethan Nwaneri on 72 mins with his work done. Comfortable showing from our maverick tonight.

Bukayo Saka: 8/10 - absolutely on it from the start, rampaging runs down the right, as two players doubled up on him and stifle his work, the gaps appeared elsewhere and the chances flowed for others to profit from.

Viktor Gyokeres: 8.5/10 - plenty of hustle and bustle up front, there’s no denying he does create space for others to float into, and he is absolutely putting in a shift every game. I was about to write I’m sure the goals will come - well they did on 67 and 70 minutes it happened. A scuffed goal, he won’t care, for 3-0 as Arsenal are in dreamland here. Whoah it’s 4-0, Madrid have capitulated. My MOTM on the night.

Gabi Martinelli: 8/10 - fractionally offside as Saka fired in a low cross on 36 minutes, got more into the action in the second half to prove he’s a natural No9 with a Henryesque, right foot curled finish into the net for 2-0. A good nights work tonight.

Substitutes:

Mosquera: 7.5/10 - Gabriel gets a breather, I for one am happy to be able to report this, Arsenal send a message out across Europe tonight. Madrid are dismantled, rarely get to see that from a Simeone side.

Ethan Nwaneri: 7.5/10 - this squad is frightening, land the Carabao Cup and I’m gonna be frothing at the mouth for a quadruple here, steady on I know, but it’s hard to not get carried away.

Christian Norgaard: 7.5/10 - a taste of Champions League  tonight, introduced as Arsenal are 4-0 to the good.

Mikel Merino: 7.5/10 - entered the fray with Arsenal romping it, chance to rest some tired limbs.

Ben White: 7.5/10 - replaced Timber with eight minutes remaining, didn’t get skinned or nutmegged, big win.

That’s a wrap from the Champions League armchair edition, gonna give the MOTM performance to Gyokeres tonight, for his work rate alone. Ripples will go across Europe with this result tonight, very rarely get to see a Simeone side dismantled like that.

I would wish all you Gunners a safe trip home, but judging by the stands as the whistle goes it looks like you lot have beaten me home already, not to matter, it’s a glorious Champions League result tonight, we move onto Crystal Palace, COYG !

PS You'll be pleased to know I watched the game on a feed from Amazon, safe in the knowledge I won’t be contributing a penny to Jeff’s coffers to cover his wedding bill, nor help him get to Mars, which to be fair is a small but distinctive win.

COYG!!
