Arsenal Women end 2025 with three consecutive away games, starting by travelling to Merseyside to face Brian Sorensen’s Everton.
The home side beat champions Chelsea 1-0 last weekend in the Women’s Super League, with Honoka Hayashi scoring on the counter-attack in the 12th minute to end a run of eight games without a league win.
The Gunners beat FC Twente 1-0 in the Champions League in midweek thanks to Beth Mead’s strike, after a late 2-1 win over Liverpool.
“I highly respect Everton and Brian [Sorensen] for the team they are,” said Arsenal boss Renee Slegers. “They're a very unpredictable team, they can do different things, so it's always at the start of the game having a good look at what their plan is and what their structure is and what they try to do.
“They have been extremely clinical from their transitions, so we have to manage that really well because we know the strength they have with the quality of players that can set it up and the quality of players that can finish it. They have quality and speed up top, so we'll have to manage that really well, it's one of their big weapons.
“If you look at the way they defended their last game where they got the 1-0 win, they defended for their lives in the box and their goalkeeper saves a lot of shots and moments, so we expect the same.
“I can imagine they take a lot of belief out of their performance and so we expect a hard game against Everton. I think if you look at the Twente game we might be asked similar questions, there will be similar challenges, but I think the physicality, the tempo will go up.”
Laia Codina trained on Friday but Jenna Nighswonger is likely to miss out due to injury. Leah Williamson could also feature for the first time this season.
Kick-off is at 12pm UK time, and the match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League.
