Renée Slegers: Stina Blackstenius “did everything that she’s good at” in win over Leicester

Blackstenius scored a brace as Arsenal Women won 4-1 at the King Power Stadium

Arsenal Women head coach Renée Slegers praised striker Stina Blackstenius after the Swede scored two goals to help the Gunners beat Leicester 4-1 away from home.

Alessia Russo's finish and a Sari Kees own goal saw Arsenal win comfortably despite Noemi Mouchon's late strike.

“Of course we only had two training days on the pitch,” reflected Slegers following Arsenal’s return to league action. “But we always want to look at opposition and where we see opportunities, and we want to look at our own strengths in the squad. I think if you talk about Stina and her performance today, I think she did everything that she's good at.

“She played to her strengths, but also the team put her in really good positions. So I'm happy with what she meant for us today, and I think we found some good moments to exploit things that Leicester gave us. It looked easy at times, but it's not that easy, and it's not only one or two players involved in creating those moments.

“There's a lot of players, and I think especially first half, we did so much to disjoint and create spaces, and we did it with tempo and intent, so I'm really happy with a lot of things in the game, especially first half, there was some high quality.”

Arsenal were without Lotte Wubben-Moy and Kyra Cooney-Cross due to illness, with Frida Maanum and Olivia Smith out due to injuries sustained during the international break.

“It's small knocks, niggles and illnesses,” Slegers told the Gooner Fanzine. “So I'm hoping to get some back for the Chelsea game, but we'll see how everything progresses during the week.”
