Tia Thorne reflects on Arsenal's disappointing loss to Bournemouth

Arsenal 1-2 Bournemouth

A disappointing result on Saturday, one that punched a lot of fans in the gut, including myself.

Saturday was so important for us to win, get our feet that bit more secure in second place, while also picking up momentum before the biggest game of our season on Wednesday night.

The first half felt positive, we played some fantastic football, looking that bit more settled in the midfield with Thomas Partey back in there, which also saw our attack flourish more, with Declan Rice able to pop up in and around the box.

Although it did take us 30 minutes to get ahead by a fantastic run from Rice who was found by a perfectly timed ball from our captain, Martin Odegaard, Rice probably could have scored two or three more before he found the net, with some positive runs by Martinelli down the wing and Leandro Trossard in and around the front line.

The goal felt more like relief in and around The Emirates, hoping to get the surge onto the players and get the game put to bed, so we can all focus on Wednesday, but of course we didn’t do so.

Our search for the second was there at the beginning of the second half, however no shot had any real power on it and trouble the Bournemouth backline.

The most basic levels of defending were absent for Arsenal when the long throw game in from Antoine Semenyo and Dean Huijsen headed home to make it 1-1, I definitely saw that one coming, foot of the gas and lack of awareness to defend any form of set pieces this season has given me great concern.

I cant say I am also surprised that a team punished us when we go level, usually keeping that result, but fair play to the Cherries, they got their second which was maybe wrongfully given.

I am so sick of PGMOL giving us a reasoning of “ No conclusive evidence” how can the best league in the world not have conclusive evidence whether it hits a hand or not???

The club shouldn’t keep accepting this as an excuse to give a goal. It is utterly ridiculous.

Anyhow, the game ended in a 2-1 defeat, no real fire or flare from us and a all round horrendous performance.

I can’t say it gives me any hope for Wednesday but we have to believe.
