As Jonas Eidevall's Arsenal gear up for the Continental Tyres League Cup final with Chelsea, here's the latest from must-read Gooner Fanzine coluninst Claudia Loy.

The Gunners beat Emma Hayes' side 3-1 in this same final last term, with Stina Blackstenius and Kim Little on target - with Gooners everywhere hoping for a similar outcome this time around at Molineux on Sunday.

In the meantime, here's Claudia's excellent piece, Three Things We Learned from Arsenal Women’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park ahead of the Conti Cup final.

We may have solved our issues against low blocks

The first half was pretty average. It was much the same as we’ve seen in previous games against a low block. Villa were set up well and we didn’t move the ball fast enough.

We had quite a few shots but didn’t score, and Villa had one shot and scored. But the second half was much better. We started ‘problem solving’ as Jonas called it, and we started confusing Villa by changing shape. Russo’s assist for the second goal is a great example of this.

You wouldn’t expect Russo to be in that position and crossing from the edge of the box, and you probably wouldn’t expect Lotte Wubben-Moy to be in the 6-yard box other than for a set piece! Lotte’s passionate celebration was great by the way.

The win gives us some much needed confidence

After the heavy defeat against Chelsea, the team deserves great credit for how they responded.

It takes courage and belief in your own ability as a team to go 1-0 down following a defeat the week before and then come back like we did. Let’s hope we can take this momentum into the Conti Cup final.

It’s also great that we weren’t content with the second goal and kept pushing.

I don’t think there was some crazy team talk at half time as this isn’t really something Jonas does. I just think they knew that if they stuck to their principles, they would win the game. And they did.

Alessia Russo and Stina Blackstenius can play together

I think this is something a lot of fans, including me, would like to see more of. Stina is so good at running in behind and Russo is so… good (in a word) that it seems like a perfect combination.

Russo can use her football IQ to find Stina who at times is a world class finisher. They also both have a physical presence and especially with Maanum behind them, that’s a monster pressing machine!

As an aside, the third goal was hilarious. If anyone hasn’t seen it, it’s a Stina Blackstenius classic. She is offside, falls over, accidentally handles the ball, stands up and nutmegs three players to score.

Obviously, the goal should have been disallowed but it was very SB coded.

More of this in the Conti Cup final please Stina! (Minus the offside and handball.)
