Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted his team is "short on numbers" and are aiming to "improve the the depth and quality" of the squad.
Gunners boss still aiming to improve depth and quality of squad at start of Singapore trip
The North London giants have been busy in the transfer market this month, already sealing deals for Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke for fees of around £123.5m in total.
The Gunners are also still attempting to land the £63.5m transfer of Sporting club de Portugal striker Viktor Gyokeres, while also working to draft in talented young defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.
However, Arteta, speaking during his first press conference after landing in Singapore, refused to be drawn on expanding details of potential new signings that the club are believed to be working on, said: “There's still a long time in the window, and we are seeking. In terms of numbers, we are short, and we have to improve the depth and the quality of the squad.
“We are constantly looking in the market, but until that happens, I can focus on the players that we actually have, work with them, and I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far in the first 10-15 days.”
Three of Arsenal's four summer signings have travelled to South-East Asia, with Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi all part of the squad.
Noni Madueke is set to join training after a short break following taking part in Chelsea's month long World Club Cup campaign in the USA, leaving Arteta to underline the club's new arrivals have all added new momentum to pre-season.
“It's like shaking the tree again and bringing new faces,” Arteta said. “They bring new excitement, a new energy as well. We signed very important players as well. Again, everybody feels like their height has to go to a different level, and that's what we're seeking.
“Ideally, you want it (transfers) done on day one in pre-season. We've done very, very well so far. I'm very pleased with the way the club is supporting the necessities and improvements that we required in the team.
“Andrea [Berta] and the team have done an excellent job as well, trying to push everything forward.
"There's still a long time to go in that window. We have a lot of hope that we can still improve the team. We're going to continue to try to do that.”
