A delighted Alessia Russo spoke to the Gooner Fanzine after Arsenal’s victorious evening at the Emirates as they overcame a 2-0 deficit to knock Real Madrid out of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The striker, who had a great performance this evening and scored a brace, along with a couple of other VAR disallowed goals, spoke of the belief the players have felt leading up to this match.
“We felt it as soon as we got over the disappointment of the away leg.” Russo told told the Gooner. “We knew what we wanted to do, we knew what we needed to do, there was a belief, and I think we worked really hard… and we delivered it.
The England striker also spoke of the drive and ambition within the Arsenal camp, telling the Gooner: “We always want more, and we want to keep pushing and we want to keep winning trophies.”
Russo referred to Arsenal’s journey and the faith she has in the team. “We’re on our journey, and everyone’s working hard. I have massive belief in everyone.”
After tonight’s win, Arsenal will face Lyon over two legs in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
