The Premier League season is set to restart on 17 June with Arsenal’s trip to Manchester City v Arsenal according to reports.

Mikel Arteta’s side would then take part in the full fixture list set to be played on the weekend of 19-21 June after clubs agreed in principle after a meeting on Thursday.

The first Premier League match to be called off was the Gunners scheduled trip to the Etihad on Wednesday, March 11 following the news that head coach Arteta had coronavirus.

Home and away matches look most likely for the vast majority of games, BBC Sport understands – but with a handful of high-profile matches pencilled in for neutral venues at the request of the police.

Safety guidelines are yet to be issued by the government and decisions will remain subject to the continuing fight against coronavirus.

The move comes after clubs voted to resume contact training following non-contact sessions last week – after only 12 people connected with top flight squads and staff tested positive for Covid-19, with 2,752 tests taken across the division.

Players and staff will continue to be tested twice every seven days a week. Those who test positive must self-isolate for one week,

Plans for the third phase of Project Restart include a step towards normal training and build-up to competitive games.
