Tobin Heath grabbed a late equaliser for Arsenal Women at Manchester City Woman

Player ratings: Manchester City Women 1-1 Arsenal Women

Tobin Heath's last-gasp leveller denied Manchester City the chance of an important victory over Arsenal Women at the Academy Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Women's Super League clash was mired in controversy after the game's opening goal was allowed to stand.

Khadija Shaw put City 1-0 ahead in the 65th minute, firing home from closde range, after referee Abigail Byrne made contact with the ball to change its direction - crucially wrongfooting Arsenal's midfield positioning prior to Lauren Hemp's cross for the goal.

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall insisted play should have been stopped, but his protests went unheeded.

As the clock ticked down, Heath, a former Manchester United forward, fired it past keeper Khiara Keating to make it 1-1 in the 92nd minute- sparking joyous scenes from the Arsenal contingent.

The result means Arsenal sit two points clear at the top on a day second place Chelsea were held to a goalless draw at Brighton.

Manu Zinsberger 7/10

Made two crucial saves, both to deny Lauren Hemp but couldn’t keep out Khadija Shaw’s close range finish.

Noelle Maritz 6/10

Beaten way too easily by Hemp in the build-up to City’s opening goal, but another consistent performance.

Leah Williamson 6.5/10

Making her first start since November after coming back from a hamstring injury, and had an injury scare after 33 minutes but managed to continue only until half-time.

Lotte Wubben-Moy 7/10

Had a difficult December but played well after being rested in recent games. Moved to the right sided centre-back position after Williamson came off and put in a very capable display.

Katie McCabe 6/10

Booked after an altercation with Lauren Hemp in the first half and will miss the upcoming WSL game against Brighton. Was untested by the potential threat of Lucy Bronze.

Kim Little (C) 6.5/10

Made her 250th appearance for the Gunners and was Arsenal’s best midfielder on the night.

Frida Maanum 5.5/10

Fairly ineffective and was withdrawn after the hour mark.

Jordan Nobbs 5.5/10

Scored an incredible free-kick the last time Arsenal won at the Academy Stadium but has only found the back of the net once this season and struggled to make an impact tonight.

Nikita Parris 6/10

Enjoyed going up against former team-mate Demi Stokes down the right and put in a passionate display against her former side but with nothing to show for it.

Vivianne Miedema 6/10

Closed the ball down well and looked much more lively, helping out her defence too. Had few chances in front of goal however and didn’t challenge City’s 17 year-old goalkeeper enough.

Beth Mead 6/10

Came close on more than one occasion, forcing Keating into a good save ten minutes into the second half. Played out on the left wing and came more central to try and fashion opportunities but was frustrated with the service she received.

Rafaella Souza (Sub, 45’) 7/10

The Brazilian January signing made her debut after the break, a straight swap for Leah Williamson. Marshalled Khadija Shaw well and looked impressive.

Tobin Heath (Sub, 63’) 8/10

There aren’t many better players that any club can bring off the bench, and she proved my point with a brilliant 92nd minute equaliser! Could hold the key to Arsenal turning things around this season..

Lia Walti (Sub, 63’) 6/10

Brought on to provide energy into Arsenal’s midfield and was a brief improvement on what Frida Maanum had brought to the table.

Stina Blackstenius (Sub, 72’) 5.5/10 Made her second appearance for the club, once again from the bench, playing in a more advanced role than Miedema. Plenty more to come from the Sweden striker.

Subs not used: Fran Stenson, Jen Beattie, Vicki Schnaderbeck, Simone Boye Sorensen, Laura Weinroither.
