How Real Madrid's shock move for Nico Williams could help Arsenal's pursuit of Rodrygo

Real Madrid are lining up a shock move for Nico Williams, according to reports coming out of Spain - which could signal good news for Arsenal in their hunt for Rodrygo.

Although the Bernabeu outfit already have Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe to fill the left wing berth, the La Liga giants are now understood to be considering the possibility of triggering the Athletic Club star’s £50 million release fee.

Williams had been ready to accept the Gunners’ offer, with the presence of Spain international colleagues David Raya, Mikel Merino and incoming Martin Zubimendi said to be a factor, along with Mikel Arteta.

However, Real's pursuit of WIlliams means Arsenal are now reconsidering a move for Los Blancos Rodrygo, after hitting a wall in talks for Nico Williams.

According to reports coming out of the Spanish captial insiders at Arsenal now believe the £70m Brazilian double Champions League winner offers better value than Williams.

The Brazilian forward has still managed 13 goals and 10 assists in 50 games this season, despite being usurped by Kylian Mbappe, with the 24-year-old left frustrated at sitting on the bench in recent weeks.

It is understood Madrid president Florentino Perez, along with incoming new coach Xabi Alonso, are both open to selling Rodrygo in order to fund an overhaul at Real after Arsenal ended their Champions League hopes with a stunnign 5-1 aggregate victory in the Champions League quarter finals - with Madrid happy to accept £70million for the Brazil attacker.
