Arsenal have announced this morning that Alessia Russo has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
Russo has won two trophies during her time in North London, the 2024 League Cup, and most recently, the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Since joining the club from Manchester United in 2023, the striker has made 72 appearances in red and white, with 36 goals in all competitions.
Last season saw her score 12 goals in the Barclay’s Women’s Super League, which meant she received the Golden Boot award.
A fan favourite for her netting abilities, as well as her on-and-off pitch charm, Russo played a vital role in Arsenal’s Champions League success, scoring a brace in the comeback against Real Madrid on a night that most fans will remember for a long time.
After her hugely successful 2024/25 season, Russo was named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year and included in the PFA and UWCL Teams of the Year. She is also amongst seven Arsenal Women players nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
Russo signs this new contract off the back of a huge summer on international duty with the Lionesses, where she helped them win a second consecutive European Championship title, even scoring the equaliser against Spain in the final to keep her team in the competition.
Speaking candidly about her decision to sign a new deal with Arsenal, Russo shared her feelings towards the club:
“Arsenal feels like home,” she said. “This is such a special club and it has felt that way to me from the moment I joined two years ago. Playing for Arsenal is an honour and has pushed me to develop and grow as a player, and I feel empowered with this badge on my chest.
“I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved together as a club, with our supporters driving us forward. But I’m still so hungry for more success, and I know that’s shared by everyone here at the club. I can’t wait to get started this season, starting with this Saturday at Emirates Stadium.”
Arsenal’s Director of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley added: “Alessia is one of the best strikers in world football and we’re thrilled to have agreed a new, long-term contract with her. We are all determined to bring more silverware to this club and keeping players like Alessia at the club is crucial to achieving that. I know our supporters will be delighted by this news and I join them in congratulating Alessia on her new contract.”
Manager Renée Slegers said: “Alessia is a really important part of our group and I’m so pleased that she has signed a new deal here. As a striker, Alessia’s goals often take the spotlight – but she brings so much more to our group. She’s a selfless player, working so hard for the team, and she also contributes so much to our team culture. I’m looking forward to striving for more together.”
