Arsenal Women beat Juventus Women 1-0 to consolidate their lead at the top of Champions League Group C on a bitterly cold evening in North London.

Viv Miedema put the home side ahead with a well-taken rising finish on the half volley from Stina Blackstenius cross after only 16 minutes, as the home side dominated throughout the match.

Refreshed after her early November break, the Dutch star made it three in three games to follow up her headed equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Juve in Turin at the end of November, which cancelled out her national teammate Lineth Beerensteyn's goal for the hosts.

Fewer than two weeks had passed since Arsenal played Juventus in Italy - that led to Jonas Eidevall noting wryly before the game he only saw the gap as 'really long half-time break.'

And while familiarity did not breed contempt - far from it as the match was played in a healthy, competitive spirit - Juventus, coached by former Gunners boss Joe Montemurro with ex-Arsenal keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin between the sticks, were no match for the vibrant home side who had nearly 70 per cent possession in the early stages.

However, Arsenal could not capitalise on their ascendancy as the match petered out as the clock ticked down in the second half in front of 6,592 hardy supporters on the coldest night of the winter so far.

Read on for our Player Ratings from the Emirates on a freezing North London night.

Manuela Zinsberger: 7/10 - Good handling when required but a relatively quiet night for the 27-year-old Austrian as she steered her defence to a well-earned clean sheet.

Laura Wienroither: 7/10 - Solid and tenacious

Leah Williamson: 8/10 - Good to have the Gunners captain return to the backline in European competition. Received a resounding round of applause when replaced by fellow centre-back Rafaella Souza just after the hour mark

Lotte Wubben-Moy: 7/10 - Perhaps needs to work a little on her distribution out from the backline

Steph Catley: 7.5/10 - Battled hard while always attempting to supplement colleagues further forward

Lia Wälti: 7/10 - Anchored the midfield

Viv Miedema: 8/10 - Refreshed after her break and was a constant threat between the lines. Excellent finish for the Gunners opener

Frida Maanum: 7/10 - Always aimed to keep play moving forward in the heart of the battle but could perhaps do with more composure in the final third, despite, or perhaps because of, a preponderance of crosses from the Arsenal No12 that were not as effective as one wished they could have been

Katie McCabe: 7/10 - A lively presence on the right flank going forward while not afraid to let opponents know she was there in a defensive capacity

Stina Blackstenius: 7.5/10 - Worked so hard out of possession and deserved her assist for Miedema's opener. Nearly scored with a first half shot that narrowly flew over former Gunners keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin

Caitlin Foord: 7/10- Drove forward with power when given the chance and never let the Juve backline settle when aiming to cut inside

Substitutes:

Rafaella Souza: 7/10 - Replaced Leah Williamson just after the hour mark

Jordan Nobbs: 7/10 - On for Blackstenius to cheers for both players late on
