Olivia Smith debut: Renée Slegers names first WSL starting XI of the season

Arsenal take on London City Lionesses in their opening game of the Women’s Super League season, and Renée Slegers has named her first starting VI of the campaign.

Women’s football’s first £1 million transfer, Olivia Smith makes her Arsenal debut, and Chloe Kelly starts for the first time since making her loan-move permanent. Victoria Pelova is included after a successful preseason, and young-Gun Katie Reid starts at the back in place of the injured Leah Williamson. Kim Little captains the side. 

The Gunners will take on the newly promoted London City Lionesses in front of an almost sold-out Emirates Stadium crowd, with Slegers hoping to kick off the season with a win. 

Starting VI: Van Domselaar, Fox, Catley, Caldentey, Little (C), McCabe, Smith, Kelly, Pelova, Russo, Reid 

Substitutes: Zinsberger, Wubben-Moy, Codina, Mead, Maanum, Foord, Hinds, Blackstenius, Cooney-Cross
