Report: Arsenal 0-1 Spurs
Arsenal fall to their first defeat of pre-season in Hong Kong
Arsenal fell to their first defeat of pre-season with a 1-0 loss to Spurs in the first North London Derby to be played outside the UK in the final game of their Asia tour.
Late in the game Victor Gyokeres made his debut and 15-year-old Max Dowman came on as a substutute for the third straight game.
In a game of few chances, the game was decided by a long-range Pape Matar Sarr strike from just outside the centre circle although it looked as though Myles Lewis Skelly had been tripped by Richarlison in the build-up.
While Spurs had struck the woodwork three times in the first half, Arsenal struggled to create any chances of note throughout the entire game.
The only real positivewas Gyokeres making his debut to excitable cheers from the Hong Kong crowd, which was largely dominated by Arsenal supporters, decking out the national stadium in a sea of red and white.
Dowman looked dangerous every time he drove down the right-hand side, with fans set to expect at least a handful of first team appearances from him over the course of the forthcoming campaign.
As for others in Arteta's squad, it was more about gaining minutes in the legs before the season starts in earnest away to Manchester United on Sunday, August 17, at Old Trafford.
Prior to that the team will now fly back to London and ramp up their preparations for the season ahead.
Before that, we have two more friendlies on home soil, both against Spanish opposition.
First, we take on Villareal in N5 on Wednesday, before hosting Athletic Bilbao 72 hours later. Onwards and upwards.
