Jenna Nighswonger and Jessie Gale seal loan moves

The Arsenal duo have both joined new clubs for the remainder of the season

Out of favour Arsenal Women left-back Jenna Nighswonger has joined Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The deal for the 25-year-old includes an option for the Women’s Super League side to buy Nighswonger.

Renee Slegers stated on Friday that the defender would leave on loan, having played just once in the WSL for Arsenal this season and losing her place in the USA side.

Portsmouth confirmed on Friday night that Arsenal had recalled 18-year-old striker Jessie Gale from her loan with the WSL2 side, and Gale has now sealed a loan switch to fellow second-tier outfit Bristol City.

England youth international Gale scored five goals for bottom side Pompey in the first half of the campaign, and joins a Bristol City outfit third in the table.

Gale told Bristol City’s website: “I’m really excited to be here, it’s such an ambitious club and after speaking to the manager and players it sounds like a really exciting journey to be a part of.

“The recent investment from Mercury13 is really important but also the club is fighting for promotion, and you want to be part of a team that’s in match winning games.”

Arsenal target Georgia Stanway has announced she will depart Bayern Munich at the end of the season, with the Gunners reportedly front-runners to sign the England midfielder.

Stanway is permitted to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in the January window.
